Testing The Water
January 3, 2009
On my journey to seek out the right medium for my next project, I tried enamel today. The last time I used that stuff was when my dad bought my sisters and I these plastic toy, Halloween, monster kits. They were just like model cars and airplanes, that you build, and glue, and paint, except they were monsters. I had Frankenstein. And, I think my sisters had the Werewolf and the Mummy. Maybe Dracula was involved too. Maybe I’m just confusing my memories with characters from The Monster Squad. Anyway…I had a blast using enamel, so I thought, why not try it for some 9″ x 9″ images I plan to paint.
When I tried it out, I quickly learned I was having the same problems as before. “Blast!” I thought. What am I doing wrong? Probably, a number of things. I was using some leftover poster board, that was lying around, because I didn’t want to use my archival paper for a practice run, so I knew that had something to do with the crappy outcome.

After being disapointed with the results, I decided to tear off a scrap from the the paper I intend to use for my actual pieces. Good news: the results were much more pleasing.
For kicks, here’s a clip for your enjoyment
