Tall & Awkward

…such as in this case.

A man and his dog were sitting in the park today. The man didn’t notice me observing them, but the dog did. I don’t think I captured it well enough, but the dog was real happy and panting.

Last night, I took a little jaunt over to The Aladdin Theater to watch The Blow (Khaela Maricich) perform songs from both Poor Aim: Love Songs and Paper Television for the last time ever! According to Maricich, the songs from both records are going into “song-retirement“. There was energy, excitement, and a little sadness in the air.

Here are last nights observations & highlights:

  1. Young “20-something-year-olds” love to dance to The Blow. The Aladdin has built in seating, but in front of the seats, just before the stage, there is some room to mosh, surf, sway, and get your dance on. That space, as well as the aisles, were packed full of a chatty crowd members ready to express themselves through the art of dance.
  2. I pondered this question the whole night: Why does Khaela Maricich always wear a white attire during her shows? Not that I’m complaining. I’m merely curious. Perhaps it is apart of the performance?.
  3. Very interactive show. The crowd was not afraid to ask questions or become interruptions. One girl asked what jeans/pants Khaela was wearing. Another person’s cell phone went off during the show. Khaela asked him/her to answer the phone. The crowd jeered. She reassured the audience that it was ok, it was now apart of the show.
  4. Stories. There are only two performers, I’ve seen live, that entertain their audience with an abundance of comical and interesting stories. Those performers are Tegan & Sara and The Blow. I’m not denying that other bands/singers don’t interact and have story time. I’m simply stating a fact, that out of all the concerts I’ve been to, these bands do the best job at connecting with their audience. My favorite story will always be the one that leads into “What Tom Says About Girls”. Youtube that stuff if you’re curious.
  5. Setlist (from what I remember): Big U // Eat Your Heart Up // Pile Of Gold // Knowing The Things That I Know // Pardon Me // What Tom Said About Girls // Parenthesis // True Affection // Long List Of Girls // Fists Ups // Hey Boy // The Love That I Crave // Come On Petunia // + a metal song I had never heard before.

I grow more fond of letterpress prints every time I see them. I love the imprint, the design, the elegance, the paper used, and the patients and time put into each print.

Take a gander at some of my favorite letterpress printing artists, designers, and companies:

Egg Press

DeLuce Design

Boxcar Press

When images are too big, wordpress likes to shrink them in order fit them in the post. This causes the images to turn out blurrier than I’d like. If an image appears blurry, click on it to see the original size and crisp lines.
