Wiener Dog Race
May 26, 2008
Yesterday, I saw something I never thought I’d witness in my lifetime: Wiener Dog Races. My sister and her husband were in town with their two Dachshunds, to see the Summer Wiener Dog Races at the Multnomah County Fair, at Oaks Park, in Sellwood.
The Highlights:
- Lots of wieners
- An old woman, wearing a yellow shirt that said something about her wiener, who appeared to be the “referee” of the race, kept yelling into her microphone, to another man with a shirt proclaiming his love for wieners, “I need my clipboard! The clipboard!…The clipboard, John! The clipboard! I need it!”
- A crazy lady interrogated my sister with questions about her dachshunds for ten minutes. The whole time this took place, the crazy lady’s crazy husband took digital photos of my sister’s two dogs.
- A pole (to my right) fell, and hit a small child (to my left) in the head! I tried to catch the pole, but I failed at being a hero. I gasped at the sight of a metal pole hitting a ten year old boy’s small head. With motherly concern, I then placed my hand on the young boy’s back and said, “Are you all right?” He turned around and looked at me with confusion. I don’t know if he thought I hit him in the head with the pole or if he was just perplexed as to why a metal pole from no where fell on him. He shook his head to reassure me he was conscious and not in need of medical attention.
- I saw two dachshunds being pushed in baby strollers…strollers designed for small dogs! Good grief.

I love it!! Jacob and I got a good laugh at reliving the highlights from such a pathetic event. You forgot the 1 weiner in the 1st race, he was so scared he tried to escape from the race, under the fence…towards the crazy lady…poor weiner.
I think this picture would be a good representation of Scout…in her younger, less cranky days, and being athletic…well…I think she would only run that fast if she was chasing Oliver. ;-)
